In the past, many of the metal industries line the Jalan Besar district. Chye Seng Huat Hardware is an art deco shophouse that happens to be a style inspired by machinery. The metal industry is prominent however, there is an issue of mass production taking over the metal craft culture in Jalan Besar.

Thus, to counter the issue of metal crafters losing their purpose, the design has the intention of giving crafters more projects and awaken their soul of crafting. To sum up the design intention, the design statement is metalworking to enlighten the soul.
